About The Position

Job Details Job Location: CRC - Wheeling, IL 60090 Salary Range: $19.00 - $22.00 Hourly Job Title: Camp Director Job Status: Part Time – Non-Exempt Division: Administration Primary Work Location: Community Recreation Center Reports To: Recreation Services Manager Supervisory Responsibility: None Essential Job Duties Oversee the day-to-day operations of camps. Oversee and coach camp staff. Communicate with Recreation Services Manager regarding the camp operations. Understand principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation. Demonstrate ability to supervise children in a recreational setting. Responsible for the weekly preparation of staff assignments including groups, schedules, and activity oversight duties Responsible for weekly preparation on camp plans including supply requests, theme day schedules, and lesson plans Responsible for weekly preparation of administrative planning including RecTrac Reporting, ePACT Records, Waiver Records, and Staff Communication Tools. Review and assess lesson plans per timeline set by Recreation Services Manager Assist staff to implement a variety of recreational activities. Assist staff in coaching through issues. When needed, monitor to ensure quality programming is completed. Inventory all supplies/equipment available for camps throughout the summer camp program and work with camp leaders to ensure all supplies and equipment are available. Dispense medication as needed and complete proper paperwork. Follow up on all accident and incident reports and communicate with Recreation Services Manager on any safety concerns. Serve as the liaison to camp staff, parents, activity staff, and Recreation Services Manager. Meet weekly with camp leaders from all camps and check in with them daily. Lead daily staff meetings of camps. Serve as a resource person to camp staff. Assist in the planning and presenting pre-camp training for all camp staff. Monitor all camp leaders. Assist camp leaders with staff evaluations Complete camp leader evaluations at end of summer. Assist camps with shut down and clean up procedures. Attend all planned camp special events and staff outings. Lead staff recognition initiative. Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules. Supports and exhibits the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people. Work as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Education, or related field. Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory position.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days.
  • Working knowledge of a camp program and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Camp supervisory experience.
