About The Position

The Camp Director serves as the on-site leader responsible for the daily management and safe operation of camp during camp sessions. This role supervises seasonal staff, oversees program implementation, and ensures compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) standards, council policies, and applicable state regulations. The Camp Director fosters a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment aligned with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum 25 years of age, per California State Organized Camping regulations.
  • 2–3+ years of progressive leadership experience in camp administration, youth development, outdoor education, or related programming.
  • Knowledge of ACA standards and youth risk management practices preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required, or willingness and ability to obtain prior to the start of camp (training can be provided)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to model Girl Scout values and create a physically and emotionally safe, inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet council insurance eligibility requirements; be comfortable operating council vehicles, including large passenger vans, as needed.
  • Complete any required driver authorization or safety training prior to transporting campers or staff.
  • Ability to reside on-site during camp sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily camp operations during assigned sessions.
  • Supervise and support Activity Manager, Health Supervisor, Kitchen Manager, and other seasonal staff.
  • Ensure implementation of safety standards, emergency procedures, and supervision ratios.
  • Support and facilitate required staff training in alignment with ACA requirements.
  • Monitor camper experience and address concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain required documentation related to incidents, health care, aquatics, and safety compliance.
  • Serve as primary on-site point of contact during emergencies and communicate with the Camp Program Manager as needed.
  • Promote a positive camp culture focused on youth leadership, inclusion, and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
