About The Position

The Youth Ambassadors for Education (Y.A.E.) is coming to South Dade! This summer, teens aged 16-19 can earn their community service hours, gain leadership skills, and learn the ins and outs of informal science education at Frost Sciences new off-site camp: Camp Curiosity! Camp Curiosity Y.A.E.s will work alongside Frost Science educators to support engaging STEM-themed programming for youth ages 59 under the direct supervision of Frost Science staff. This is a competitive program with limited availability. Students who are interested in the program must undergo an application and interview process and have parent/guardian consent. Students must be present at Camp Curiosity, located at Ron Ehmann Park at 10995 SW 97 Avenue, Miami, FL 33176.

Requirements

  • The Youth Ambassadors for Education at Frost Science are expected to be friendly, courteous and represent the museum in a positive, professional, and supportive manner at all times.
  • Interest in science, education values aligned with Frost Sciences mission.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Reliable and punctual, with good attendance.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working with children, youth and/or families.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work in fast pace, ever changing environments with individuals of various backgrounds.
  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • Must wear a Frost Science volunteer T-shirt and fulfill other uniform requirements as listed in the Frost Science Youth Ambassador for Education handbook for the duration of all on-site shifts.
  • Level 2 background clearance as defined by applicable Florida Statutes, completed through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse: https://info.flclearinghouse.com
  • Drug screening as part of the Museums Drug-Free Workplace Program
  • Must receive consent from parent/guardian to participate in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Camp Curiosity staff with day-to-day camp operations
  • Provide support to Frost Science staff during educational programming, lunch, recess, and weekly field trips to Frost Science.
  • Material preparation.
  • Post-program break down and clean up.
  • Effectively work with museum staff, other volunteers, and children aged 5-9.
