Program and Role Summary: Wayfinder’s Camp Bloomfield provides children and youth who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled with memorable experiences in the outdoors. Our camp program offers activities adapted for children of all ages and abilities that develop self-esteem and build independence. Also, Wayfinder offers sports, recreation and outdoor adventures that are adapted for children and teens with disabilities. The primary focus of the Camp Counselor, is to ensure a positive safe experience for a child, teen, or family member who participates in the Camp Bloomfield program. Camp Counselors are responsible for ensuring campers are supervised at all times, that all rules and procedures are followed, and that all activities are conducted in a safe manner. Camp Sessions: May 28–31: Staff Orientation – Wayfinder Campus, Los Angeles (8am–5pm) June 3–6: Staff Orientation – Lions Camp at Teresita Pines (overnight) June 8–12: Adult Camp – Lions Camp at Teresita Pines, Wrightwood (overnight) June 16–21: Family Camp – Pathfinder Ranch, Mountain Center (overnight) June 26–July 1: Youth Camp – Lions Camp at Teresita Pines, Wrightwood (overnight)

Requirements

  • High school diploma, required.
  • Desire to work with children, teens, and adults who are blind, visually impaired, and multi-disabled.
  • Ability to lead small and large groups in activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior camp counselor experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all aspects of the camper day including arrival (or van pickup), meal-times, daily activities, and transportation home.
  • Provide for the safety and well-being of participants within your group during the entire camp session.
  • Supervise all aspects of the camper day including arrival (or van pickup), meal-times, daily activities, and transportation home.
  • Assist campers with safely walking and navigating around the activity areas and give support as needed for campers to participate in each activity.
  • Assist campers with getting their lunches and locating the restrooms on site as needed.
  • Assist in developing campers’ objectives with the Camp Manager that ensures campers’ needs are being met.
