The Jorgensen Family YMCA is seeking a Leaders in Training Camp Counselor who is enthusiastic, energetic, and compassionate with a strong desire to impact the lives of youth/ teens positively.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be committed to contributing to the mission, culture, and values of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne
  • Minimum of 18 years of age, with a high school diploma or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Experience working with youth or teens in a camp, recreation, school or mentoring setting
  • Strong communication, organization and leadership skills;
  • Ability to handle situations quickly, kindly, and fairly.
  • Ability to relate to, welcome, and communicate with diverse groups of people regardless of age, race, economic status, religion, or cultural differences.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience leading service projects, volunteer groups, or team-building activities

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging leadership development activities that help Teens build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork skills in a supportive camp environment
  • Collaborate with camp staff to implement service projects, field trips and daily programming that reinforce leadership & community connections.
  • Develop meaningful mentorship relationships that guide LIT participants as they practice leadership through assisting younger campers.
  • Inspire teens to grow as leaders by modeling the Y's Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
