About The Position

Responsible for creating a fun, safe, and memorable camp experience by guiding activities, supporting campers, and helping daily activities run smoothly.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be certified in Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid from an accredited organization or obtain certification during staff training.
  • Experience, or passion for, working in camps, youth programs, or with children in general.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to assist in planning, organizing, and implementing program activities.
  • Ability to portray a professional image of the District.
  • Ability to work consistently during the entire 11-week camp season including an additional week of training prior to camp.
  • Ability to work the 4th of July holiday.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the organization, supervision, and implementation of daily camp activities and programs.
  • Help plan, prepare, and execute weekly activity schedules in accordance with program goals and guidelines.
  • Supervise campers to ensure their safety, engagement, and positive participation.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating appropriate behavior, language, and attitude at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with campers, parents/guardians, staff, and the public.
  • Support risk management efforts by identifying potential hazards and following established safety procedures.
  • Provide first aid as needed.
  • Contribute as an active participant, engaging with campers and contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program site, including activity areas and common spaces.
  • Communicate with the Camp Director and Recreation Program Manager regarding all program needs including supply and equipment needs, camper behavior concerns, schedule issues, etc.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including emergency behavior management procedures.
  • Attend training sessions, weekly meetings, and parent conferences as necessary.
  • Light janitorial duties required.
  • Frequently sub or fill-in for other camp counselors.
