Camp Counselor 12 Males and 12 Females (3575) Job Details Job Location: NSC-Camp Walter Johnson - Denton, NC 27239 Salary Range: $375.00 - $375.00 Salary Job Category: Camp Ministerial Responsibilities Performs ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with a camper, or leading in Christian songs, etc. Participates in regular camp worship meetings and times of prayer. Leads devotional activities with campers. Supports the seeker’s ministry and prays with campers as needed; accompanies campers who come to the altar during the closing worship meeting at the end of the camp session. Demonstrates Christ-like care and will be responsible for praying with campers, encouraging them spiritually, and guiding them in their Christian walk. While on duty, staff members conducting these ministerial responsibilities must ensure that their words, actions, and behavior align with the doctrines and theology of The Salvation Army. Supervision Responsibilities Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and during unscheduled blocks of time, in accordance with camp rules and regulations. Promotes and encourages campers' participation to ensure a pleasant camp experience. Supervises cabin clean-up and work details. Coordinates and leads youth through their daily schedule, ensuring punctuality and responsibility. Cabin Management Responsibilities Lives with a group of campers and helps each camper adjust and get to know other campers and camp life. Both counselors must accompany campers back to the cabin and prepare for bedtime. No camper or campers should be left alone in the cabin without proper staff supervision. One counselor must be in the room with the campers for 30-45 minutes after lights are out to ensure campers have settled for the night. Keeps the door to your room open at night so that you can maintain order. Ensure that all beds in the cabin are at least 30 inches apart; there should be adequate space to allow freedom of movement and provide an emergency exit. Stays in the cabin with your kids at night. You may leave your cabin for a legitimate reason, but only if you have another staff member of age who does not have camper responsibility at the time to cover for you. At the end of each camp session, wipe down all mattresses, sinks, showers, toilets, and mop floors with bleach water to control germs. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection. Safety Responsibilities Provides constant care for campers' needs in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner. Interprets and maintains camper compliance with camp rules and the camp safety and health regulations. Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities (including free time and evenings); reports all accidents to the supervisor in a timely and accurate manner. Exhibits control of the campers and, when needed, displays proper discipline techniques. Maintains an incident report book for each of your campers in each camp session. Turn in the incident report book to your Head Counselor at the conclusion of each camp session and retrieve a new one at the beginning of each camp session. Notify the Head Counselor immediately of any serious situation. Inspects the fire extinguisher and reports to the Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed. Make sure all cleaning solutions are locked up except during use and are used only with your supervision. Program Responsibilities Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team, delivering and supervising evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Assists with program activities and other assigned activities, working closely with program staff. Be prepared with rainy day activities as needed. Moves with campers to ALL classes and activities and remains with them unless otherwise noted. May be asked to teach a class based on personal experience or expertise, or to assist with teaching a class. Determines appropriate supplies and materials for activities; ensures campers’ safety when using them. Maintains the camp materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money, and supplies necessary for camp programs. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.). Assists in leading campers during waterfront, nature, outdoor, arts & crafts, or other activities. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director. May assist in cleaning the cabins, kitchen, tables, floors, etc., in accordance with established sanitary standards. May assist in preparing and serving snacks and meals; ensure that campers receive nutritional and tasty food; provide a positive, relaxed atmosphere during mealtimes, and encourage conversation.
