We are currently looking for an experienced Calibration / Metrology Technician for our Mounds View, Minnesota location. Working within the Global Quality Excellence organization, this role provides support for the Electrical Metrology Laboratory. As part of the Global Calibration Services – US Midwest region, you will support calibration of test, inspection, and measurement equipment across the Twin Cities and have a global reaching impact delivering results for and guiding Metrology worldwide across Medtronic. With a focus on quality and compliance, we empower teams focused on research, innovation, development, and manufacturing. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Calibrates electronic test measuring equipment and signal generating equipment to conform to set standards. Tests, calibrates, adjusts, and maintains electromechanical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydro mechanical, and pressure-type measuring and indicating instruments. Sets up calibration sequences, methods and procedures according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements. Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and replaces defective parts of test equipment such as pressure gauges and tension meters. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and performs detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes. DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS Autonomy: Seasoned individual contributor, working under limited supervision, and providing assistance and training to lower level employees. Runs minor projects, including performing tests, interpreting data, developing reports. Organizational Impact: Performs technical activities requiring considerable judgment and may have ownership of minor projects. Work consists of technical tasks that are typically not routine. Innovation and Complexity: Technical problems faced are general, and may require some analysis to understand and resolve. Expected to independently propose solutions to problems for supervisor review. Communication and Influence: Communicates typically with internal contacts. Obtains and provides technical information on matters of moderate importance to the job area. Leadership and Talent Management: Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • High School Diploma or GED is required

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of electronic calibration-related technical school training (60 semester credits) to preferably include metrology and calibration, or equivalent military education such as PMEL or like training
  • ASQ Certified Calibration Technician
  • Strong math, statistics, and physics background
  • Solid technical ability, experience in equipment set up, and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), Windows OS, Minitab (or other statistical analysis software), and IndySoft (or other calibration tracking database software)
  • Experience with MS Excel spreadsheet template development and validation testing
  • Involvement in medical device or other regulated industries
  • Experience with DMAIC problem solving
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on daily tasks, and long-term objectives as demonstrated by self-prioritizing and managing work requests
  • Knowledge of calibration and measurement principles: measurement uncertainty, measurement traceability, measurement standards, test uncertainty/accuracy ratios, measurement system analysis (MSA), SI units, calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance reporting.
  • Familiar with these regulations: FDA 21 CFR Part 820 cGMP, ISO 13485, ISO 10012, and ISO 17025
  • Familiar with NIST, BIPM, NCSL, ASTM, ASME, or other organizations related to metrology, measurements, or standards.
  • Organized, efficient, process oriented; interpersonal/communication skills; self-motivated; team player; strong work ethic; works well under pressure in a dynamic environment; tactful, exercises independent judgment and discretion – professional presentation.
