About The Position

The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, VA, is seeking a dedicated and reliable Cafeteria Cook to join our Culinary Team. This position plays a key role in ensuring our employee cafeteria operates efficiently and provides fresh, high-quality meals in a clean and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will be dependable, team-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. This is a full-time position with a regular schedule from Wednesday to Sunday.

Requirements

  • Availability: Must be available to work Thursday through Sunday.
  • Experience: At least one year of food preparation or cooking experience preferred.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety.
  • Communication: Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative kitchen environment.
  • Creative: Can create new menus and make orders each week.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; culinary coursework a plus.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a high-volume kitchen or cafeteria setting preferred.
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment and handle food safely and efficiently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to cleanliness and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food in accordance with menu plans and batch quantities, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Clean, cut, and prepare vegetables, meats, poultry, and seafood; cook to appropriate temperatures.
  • Portion and serve meals to hotel staff in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all cooking equipment, kitchen tools, and cafeteria areas in collaboration with the Stewarding department.
  • Oversee general cafeteria operations, including setup, breakdown, and cleaning.
  • Create with determine a new menu weekly based on inventory and dietary needs.
  • Monitor and inventory cafeteria supplies and equipment; communicate replenishment needs.
  • Ensure all cafeteria equipment is clean, operational, and routinely inspected.
  • Adhere to proper cash handling procedures for employee purchases.
  • Provide training and guidance to new cafeteria staff as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Chef or Culinary Leadership.
