About The Position

The Café Supervisor provides key oversight of the Fleet Science Center’s Café and theater concessions operations. This position supervises kitchen and front of house staff as they perform a variety of duties, including food and drink preparation and service, restocking, and cleaning. The supervisors ensure these duties are carried out with a high caliber of customer service, constant attention to food safety, and cash handling standards. The Café Supervisor also assists the Assistant Director of Business Operations with duties such as ordering inventory and supplies, monitoring kitchen equipment, creating and updating policies and procedure documents, and serving as a point of escalation for any customer issues. This is an exciting opportunity to help open the Fleet’s brand-new café after an extensive renovation. Start date is anticipated to be between March 25th – early April but may change based on construction schedules. Requirements

  • Three years of food service experience, including cash handling and basic food preparation.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic mathematical knowledge and ability to accurately conduct and oversee cash transactions.
  • Administrative experience with tasks such as scheduling, placing supply orders, composing e-mails, and drafting documentation.
  • Ability to perform confidently and calmly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid food handler’s card or be able to obtain one within one week of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience, including experience hiring, training, and overseeing staff members, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new café and concessions team members.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to create manuals, policies, and procedure documents related to food and beverage operations.
  • Assist in creating the staffing schedule for all food and beverage operations, ensuring adequate coverage while adhering to labor budgets.
  • Assist customers in a friendly and efficient manner with excellent customer service, stepping in to assist Café and Concession Team Members with customer issues or complaints.
  • Oversee Café and Concession Team members as they fulfill customer orders and step in to assist where necessary.
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer and ensure staff are giving change after each transaction, receiving payments, totaling register balance, and completing closing paperwork.
  • Oversee Cooks, Café Team Members, and Concessions Team Members to ensure food is prepared to recipe standards and that food safety guidelines are always adhered to.
  • Assist in food preparation as needed.
  • Oversee and/or perform routine cleaning around the café surfaces, appliances, floors, patio area, etc; change trash as needed; complete detail cleaning projects as assigned; and perform routine maintenance of equipment as assigned.
  • Manage internal and external work orders.
  • Track stock levels for all food and paper items.
  • Create and maintain order and par lists.
  • Establish positive vendor relationships.
  • Research the best pricing.
  • Order based on café's needs, keeping waste to a minimum.
  • Track staff attendance and monitor employee performance.
  • Hold staff accountable for following all café and Fleet policies and delivering disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Always maintain café and concessions safety standards.
  • Become familiar with injury procedures and the Fleet’s emergency plan and be prepared to assist in any emergent situations.
  • Ensure staff adherence to health standards regarding food preparation, storage, cleanliness, and other operations in the café.
  • Keep Food Handlers card current and manage staff compliance.
  • Ensure staff adherence to all ABC regulations regarding the sale and service of alcohol.
  • Must complete ABC Certification.
  • Work Special Events as assigned.
