Position Summary The Café Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the food & beverage serving of guests in the performing arts center at café or lounge and occasionally portable food and beverage vending locations. The Cafe Supervisor must be personable and able to work in an ever- changing fast-paced environment. The Cafe Supervisor will assist the General Manager and the rest of the OVG leadership team with projects including training, inventory and special events. The Cafe Supervisor must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work events or regular café/ restaurant business hours as scheduled per business need. About the Venue In 2024, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Cultural Campus introduced the Ensemble Arts Philly brand name to improve clarity to the audience experience, across our physical spaces and online. Coffee by day and lounge by night the Cafe offers specialty coffees and light bites with a full service bar inside the Kimmel Center Plaza near the renowned Perelman Theater and Marian Anderson Hall.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with POS systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience working in a supervisory capacity in a fast-paced food and beverage environment or applicable education/experience.
  • Ability to lead the work of others.
  • Previous cash handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to handle cash and operate a cash register and corresponding system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & a friendly, positive attitude with co-workers, managers, volunteers and guests with a focus on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Possess valid food handling certificate and RAMP certification if required by state and federal regulations (or be willing to obtain one within a 60 day time-frame from date of hire).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, some holidays and long hours.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in proper set-up of the cafe prior to opening. Set-up duties may include: verifying opening inventory, assigning duties to café and lounge workers (employee) ensuring sanitation standards are met, verifying that the café, bar and kitchen is fully operational, ascertaining levels of food production based upon projected guest attendance has been met; assuring that the staff has followed proper procedures for handling of cash.
  • Provide a high level of oversight and operational expertise resulting in the smooth, efficient and profitable execution of daily and nightly business.
  • Training new & current employees with regard to property, procedure & best practices.
  • Willing to cover / back-up any open position to assure location is fully operational and company standards pertaining to speed of service and guest satisfaction are met; assist with event needs, as directed.
  • Ensure work environment is safe and free from harassment or discrimination; immediately address all safety concerns, potential hazards, accidents or incidents. Relays safety/health issues to management immediately.
  • Ensure event staff are aware of work place expectations; provide on-going assistance, training and mentoring to event staff and volunteers; promote a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative workplace environment by working side-by-side with staff and volunteers; reinforce procedures and practices through repetition; lead by example and provide on-going constructive feedback.
  • Assist and execute inventory count and management, producing goods order counts.
  • Assist in receiving and proper and neat storage of inventory.
  • Ability to obtain working knowledge of all existing resource locations: geographical locations, inventory, equipment, evacuation procedures, adjacent employee and guest areas and facility access.
  • Responsible for supervising the service of beverages to guests including alcoholic beverages. Must check guest’s ID to verify minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
  • Responsible for assisting in recording a guest’s order and relaying the order to the kitchen via P.O.S. system.
  • Responsible for observing guests to respond to any additional requests and determine when the meal has been completed.
  • Responsible for computing the cost of the meal and presenting the guest with the check. Accept payments and provide change as necessary.
  • Recommends certain dishes and identifies ingredients or explains how various items on the menu are prepared.
  • Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas.
  • Must show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance.
  • Assures that the location equipment is operable and clean prior to start of event.
  • Responsible for recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals
  • Enforces all company policies and procedures.
  • Assists Management team with projects including training, inventory and special events.
