About The Position

Come join our CAFE TEAM in Novato! RUSTIC BAKERY has been making and serving organic handmade baked goods since 2005. We operate five popular cafes in Marin and have a wholesale production division making flatbread crackers, cookies and crisps in Petaluma. We strive for locally sourced ingredients of the highest quality when making our products and the same goes for our people. We're looking for individuals with a love of artisan products, who want to bring their very best and be part of a fresh baked, locally sourced, fast rising company. SUMMARY This position supports the Cafe Manager in the day-to-day operations of the cafe. They oversee the operation and its staff when the Manager is absent. They assist in training staff and setting the example for great customer service. They also assist with maximizing sales and profitability, inventory and expense control, staff coverage, and managing operating costs and shrinkage.

Requirements

  • A passion for creating a great customer service experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to train and motivate staff.
  • Ability to foster a supportive environment with a focus on teamwork.
  • Must work well under pressure and exercise tact and patience in all situations with employees and guests.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to others and remain open to others' ideas.
  • Must be available to work a varied schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • One year of Restaurant industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of POS systems and other technical software specific to the industry.
  • Must provide a Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual communication in English and Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that each guest receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every guest, training staff on customer service standards, providing solid product knowledge, and leading by example.
  • Ensure that all food and health code requirements are met in every area of the café.
  • Maintain a safe working environment ensuring that employees are well trained and following all safety practices.
  • Assist with staffing coverage, scheduling breaks and time off requests. This includes daily oversight to ensure employees receive state mandated rest breaks and meal periods.
  • Ensure merchandise is stocked appropriately including an attractive assortment of product, timely stocking and removal of seasonal product, and well placed signage.
  • Assist with training and motivating employees, including but not limited to opening and closing procedures, proper money handling, product knowledge, coffee service and general service standards.
  • Work with the Manager to ensure the Cafe is fully stocked with product and organized.
  • Work at the counter filling orders for customers; this is an expected part of the workday. Assist employees with their duties (i.e. cashier, busser, cook, etc.) jumping in as necessary when an unexpected absence occurs or a heavy volume of customers;
  • Provide opening and closing duties on a regular basis.
  • Consistently at work and on time. Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Enter and maintain information in the Cafe POS and other online/data systems.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
