About The Position

This position is accountable for providing support to Engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams. Projects may include bulk material handling facilities, bridge structures, cargo yards and cruise terminals. The incumbent will typically work with Junior Engineers, Engineers, Sr. Engineers, Principal Engineer and VP Engineering in day to day activities.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school or 2 year certificate and a minimum of 7 years of related work experience, preferably in a marine construction or heavy civil setting, with 5 years minimum proven work experience using Autodesk AUTOCAD. 3 years of work experience with Autodesk Civil 3D is preferred.
  • The incumbent must possess a mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.

  • working knowledge of civil site development (e.g. grading, slopes, surfaces creation/manipulations, volume calculations, sections, and general knowledge of survey procedures and respective data)

Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
  • In addition, the CAD Technician/Designer must also be capable of remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Engineering & Structural Design team to achieve departmental business goals and objectives.
  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and Autodesk AUTOCAD and Civil 3D software to develop civil and structural designs.
  • Prepares site plans, sections and details, and all design drawings.
  • Creates and revises engineering drawings (detail and assembly drawings).
  • Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, material to be used, relations one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure.
  • Draws finished designs from sketches
  • Updates Drafting and Engineering Standards.
  • Sets up and maintains an organized file system for production drawings.
  • Works with Engineer team members to assist in successful completion of design project objectives.
  • Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety.
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent comes into contact with.
  • Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
  • Reports any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations or Company policies and procedures promptly, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
  • Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
