About The Position

The CAD Designer at Emerson in Marshalltown, Iowa, is responsible for crafting mechanical engineering drawings, developing 3D models, and handling part numbers in the system. This role supports both the design of new products and the improvement of existing designs, collaborating closely with various departments including engineering, simulation, manufacturing, marketing, and suppliers. Precision in calculations such as minimum wall checks, stem lengths, surface areas, and unit conversions (mm to inch) is important for producing accurate 2D layouts and comprehensive 3D assembly models. Additionally, the role involves data entry and maintenance tasks within the Oracle database system, supporting multi-functional operations across the organization. This position requires excellent skills in communications, process improvement, as well as configuration of CAD Software, with strong CAD skills and understanding of SolidWorks & PDM Pro software being essential.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree in a CAD-related field or a degree in industrial technology, manufacturing technology, mechanical engineering, industrial design, or similar field.
  • Must be proficient in parametric modeling software
  • Advanced surface modeling and complex blending skills.
  • General understanding of materials properties (primarily metals).
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Symbology)
  • High level of digital literacy and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specialty design modules such as Simulation, Composer, DriveWorks, SolidWorks PDM.
  • SolidWorks Certification - CSWE (Certified SolidWorks Expert).
  • In depth understanding of castings, forgings and stampings
  • Understanding of manufacturing process such as supply chain, manufacturing & quality

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the engineering teams during product development and design iterations.
  • Identify areas of improvement, provide recommendations, and implement solutions by developing new tools or processes
  • Train CAD users in core application skills and standards.
  • Strong communication and social skills with the ability to work with CAD users across multiple global sites.
  • Willingness to work in teams and individually, both inside and outside of the business unit.
  • Daily interaction with the Global CAD teams.
  • Contribute to activities and projects to help achieve business unit goals and objectives.
  • Layout and design of sliding stem valves, trim, and actuation components.
  • Create product renderings of varying complexity.
  • Assist in the design of products following internal guidelines, standards and procedures.
  • Checking of 3D models and drawings of varying complexities to comply with ASME Y14.5 GD&T 2009 standard.
  • Will lead meetings with engineering & manufacturing to develop template drawings for production.
  • Originate and assist with the completion of engineering change request.
  • Setup and maintain part numbers and other engineering items.
  • Assist with preparation for project meetings, design reviews, and related activities.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Creation of documents, best practices and standards.
