CAD Designer

AUC Group LLCHouston, TX

About The Position

AUC Group is seeking an experienced Piping & Mechanical CAD Designer to support the design and detailing of wastewater treatment systems. This role involves translating engineering concepts, P&IDs, sketches, and field measurements into complete and accurate design packages. Responsibilities include equipment and piping layouts, piping supports, structural components, tanks, walkways, access platforms, and other fabricated assemblies. The ideal candidate is proficient with parametric modeling tools (Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.) and can coordinate with engineers, field crews, and design staff to develop buildable layouts that eliminate installation conflicts. This position is well-suited for individuals who can visualize complex systems, understand industrial piping and structural relationships, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced project environment.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with parametric 3D CAD modeling (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or similar).
  • Proficient in 2D CAD workflows (AutoCAD or similar) and comfortable working within established drafting and modeling standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering sketches, and mechanical system layouts.
  • Experience with industrial or process piping design, ideally in water/wastewater applications.
  • Strong spatial visualization skills with the ability to identify potential construction or interference issues early in the design process.
  • Capable of performing field measurements and working safely around operational equipment.
  • Proficiency with basic office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • College degree, or an equivalent combination of technical school training and relevant work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Inventor experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault or other CAD data/document management systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate design packages—including equipment layouts, piping, supports, structural components, tanks, and fabricated assemblies—based on engineering inputs and field data.
  • Collaborate with Design and Project Engineers to refine design intent and incorporate required changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Integrate vendor drawings, technical specifications, and 3D models into project designs.
  • Participate in site visits to collect measurements, verify installation conditions, and document findings.
  • Support field teams by resolving design issues and providing quick-turn solutions when unexpected conditions arise.
  • Maintain adherence to departmental standards, drawing conventions, and CAD best practices.
  • Modify and manage project parameters within modeling software to maintain consistency and support design automation.
  • Coordinate with team members to support project deadlines and ensure cohesive design execution.
