About The Position

Merrell Bros., Inc. is seeking a detail‑oriented CAD Intern to support the transition of existing CAD models and drawings from legacy software systems into a new CAD platform. This internship is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in engineering design, data management, and process improvement. The intern will play a key role in ensuring model accuracy, consistency, and usability while gaining hands‑on experience in a professional engineering office environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering, Drafting & Design, CAD Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow established standards and procedures while working independently.
  • Comfortable working with digital files, data systems, and structured documentation.
  • Preferably enrolled in or plans to enroll in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD/Design Technology, or a related field (or equivalent technical coursework).
  • Basic working knowledge of CAD drafting/modeling concepts (SolidWorks exposure preferred).
  • Ability to follow instructions and produce neat, accurate work with strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn about mechanical equipment, drawing standards, and manufacturing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with multiple CAD platforms or file conversions.
  • Familiarity with data management, file versioning, or engineering document control.
  • Interest in process improvement and system transitions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the migration and conversion of 2D and 3D CAD models from existing software systems to a new CAD program.
  • Review legacy CAD files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current company standards prior to and after conversion.
  • Organize, rename, and structure CAD files and related metadata to support long‑term data integrity and ease of use.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD staff to resolve data inconsistencies and modeling issues.
  • Document data transition processes, standards, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
  • Perform basic CAD edits, updates, and quality checks as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company designs, processes, and proprietary information.
  • Support additional engineering or documentation tasks as needed.
