MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT GDIT is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Telecommunications Engineer to provide comprehensive engineering and project management support for telecommunications and Information Technology (IT) infrastructure upgrades and installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, managing, and implementing complete technical solutions for inside/outside plant (ISP/OSP) cable infrastructure. This role requires the ability to analyze technical requirements, develop detailed project plans, and oversee execution from initial concept through to final integration, ensuring all work complies with industry and AFCENT standards.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 years of engineering experience focused on telecommunications and physical infrastructure.
  • A minimum of 6 years of practical experience supporting communications electronic systems, with demonstrated expertise in IP routing, architecture design, and complex problem-solving.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with military communication systems.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
  • A valid Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Outside Plant (OSP) Design or RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Design) certification.
  • A certificate of completion from a USAF Engineering and Installation Project Engineering course.
  • Clearance Level Must Currently Possess: Secret
  • Clearance Level Must Be Able to Obtain: Secret
  • US Citizenship Required: Yes

Responsibilities

  • Engineering & Design • Design and implement end-to-end technical solutions for telecommunications and IT projects in accordance with Telecommunication Industry Association (TIA) 758 standards.
  • Perform and document detailed site surveys for fiber optic, copper, and coaxial infrastructure requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering project packages for installation teams, including work instructions, diagrams, and Lists of Materials (LOMs).
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of infrastructure designs from outside engineering firms (35%, 65%, 95% stages) to ensure compliance with all standards and seamless integration.
  • Project Management & Execution • Develop Project Support Agreements (PSAs) that specify requirements for allied support, minor construction, facility upgrades, equipment, and materials.
  • Supervise, manage, and provide technical direction to engineering, installation, and CAD teams during project execution.
  • Create and execute detailed cutover plans to integrate new infrastructure, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal disruption to services.
  • Perform technical evaluations of vendor product submittals to guarantee they meet project requirements and will integrate with existing base infrastructure.
  • Analysis & Stakeholder Collaboration • Analyze technical requirements for IT services, assess projected mission and technology changes, and recommend capabilities for new facilities.
  • Collaborate with local engineering and program management entities to ensure communications infrastructure is properly incorporated into future facility designs (MILCON & FSRM) IAW DAFI 32-1020.
  • Coordinate all project plans and cutover activities with relevant customers, service providers, and theater communication agencies.
  • Deliver briefings on project plans and status to government leadership, including commanders.
