About The Position

IES Commercial is seeking motivated and dependable Communications Technician I candidates to support a large-scale, multi‑million‑dollar commercial construction project in Chandler, AZ. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the low‑voltage and structured cabling industry. Technicians will assist with cable installation, termination, testing, pathway support, construction site work, and equipment installation while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • 0–1 year of experience in telecommunications, construction, or related technical field.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and project documentation (or willingness to learn).
  • Ability to work from ladders, at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to see color codes, read small print, and identify audio signals.
  • Technicians must bring their own basic tool kit, including:
  • Screwdrivers (regular & Phillips)
  • Drywall saw
  • Torpedo level
  • Tape measure
  • Snips with belt sheath
  • Needle‑nose pliers & channel locks
  • Hammer
  • Wrench set
  • Cable stripper
  • Flashlight
  • Gloves
  • Steel‑toe boots required.
  • A complete tool list will be provided during onboarding.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic construction knowledge.
  • Valid driver’s license meeting company driving standards.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Experience with low‑voltage cabling.

Responsibilities

  • Structured Cabling Installation
  • Install work‑area outlets in floor monuments, modular furniture, and wall locations.
  • Route and pull cable using fish tape and industry‑standard pulling methods.
  • Perform cable organization tasks: dressing, forming, labeling, and determining proper slack.
  • Pathways & Support Infrastructure
  • Properly suspend and support cable using cable trays, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems.
  • Build and install telecommunications closets, including backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable pathways as required.
  • Firestopping & Penetrations
  • Perform fire‑stopping on fire‑rated walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through penetrations.
  • Termination & Testing
  • Terminate low‑voltage devices and support Cat5/Cat6 cabling termination and testing.
  • Documentation & Administrative Tasks
  • Complete all IES paperwork accurately (timesheets, work orders, change orders, material transfers, tool transfers).
  • Follow all company, customer, and industry quality and safety regulations.
