OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY This classification requires the performance of basic cable assembly operations where planning and sequencing of operations has been determined and supported by clearly defined operation sheets and instructions. WORK PERFORMED Work with technical assistance and guidance. Work with progressively less guidance and instruction as knowledge, skill, and experience in classification increases. Prepare wires and perform end-one functions consisting of operation of Wirematic System and wire harness subassembly forming operations, hand cutting and stripping of wires, cutting braid and jacket; making shield breakouts; stripping wire ends using automatic and manual strippers; crimping connector contacts using automatic and/or manual crimpers; inserting contacts into connectors per established work instructions; prepare identification sleeves using hot impression stamping machine or equivalent; may perform soldering as required by predetermined work instructions and specifications. Assemble cables using form boards when specified, consisting of: routing, twisting and forming wires and terminating wire ends per established documentation; operating Cable Scan during wire termination; torqueing, crimping, clean and priming ferrules prior to bonding operation. Complete cable assembly per drawing, specification and work instruction requirements. Perform continuity checks of cable circuitry to assure compliance with drawing requirements. Perform rework of the same level of difficulty as other work described herein. Set up and operate lugging, wire numbering, stripping, cutting, stamping machines and swaging equipment. As knowledge of the work increases, recommend improvements to product and process quality, cost and efficiency, and to the improvement of tooling and other factors affecting quality and productivity in the workplace. Join our Cable Shop as a Cable Fabricator to work hands-on building complex cables for the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program. The cables we build are used in multiple programs all of which directly support the strategic deterrence mission of our Strategic Systems Program partner. New cable fabricators will receive extensive training upfront and progressively less guidance as knowledge, skill, and experience increase. Cable fabrication consists of following work instructions and cable drawings to: prepare wires, perform wire harness subassembly, hand cut and strip wires, cut braid and jacket, make shield breakouts, crimp connector contacts, insert contacts into connectors, prepare identification sleeves, solder, torque, and perform continuity checks. This position may require periodic overtime depending on program schedule requirements and equipment availability. Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet and maintain eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US citizenship required.
