About The Position

The Class C Lineman Transmission is an entry level lineman position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This role involves working at various locations and may require travel to other states based on customer demands. The position requires working safely with energized and de-energized transmission systems, often involving high voltage, and performing rigorous physical labor outdoors, frequently in inclement weather. The role also includes maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools.

Requirements

  • 1-year minimum of field experience
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE
  • Willing to work over-time when requested
  • Willingness to glove/work live high voltage transmission lines
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position

Nice To Haves

  • A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized transmission work
  • Stringing overhead wire
  • Setting poles and anchors
  • Work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order
  • Perform all other related work as required to complete the job
  • Work outside, frequently in inclement weather
  • Perform rigorous physical labor
  • Learn transmission voltages on a circuit
  • Be familiar with induced voltage
  • Safely set a pole
  • Learn to understand and read blueprints
  • Assist with inspecting and recognizing structural problems
  • Work productively from an aerial device
  • Assist in troubleshooting
  • Work alone on de-energized lines
  • Obtain knowledge of wire stringing techniques
  • Learn and understand how to sag wire from structure or bucket
  • Assist with assembly and erect towers to all heights
  • Assist with working from an aerial ladder to catch off and clip in
  • Assist in framing and setting most basic line structures
  • Assist in framing a de-energized pole structure in the air
  • Assist with installing all types of compression connections
  • Work at heights and/or confined spaces
  • Properly install and remove PPE and cover up
  • Properly inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE
  • Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so
  • Understand how to tie various lineman knots
  • Make up and use a hand line
  • Understand grounding procedures
  • Understand proper equipment set-up and grounding procedures
  • Understand how and when to use Kellum grips
  • Identify different types of materials used in line work
  • Understand minimum approach distance
  • Understand flag and tag procedures
  • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape
  • Follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies
