About The Position

The Petrochemical Industry Buyer is responsible for executing procurement activities to secure the most competitive quotes efficiently and effectively, optimize costs, order appropriate quantities, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. The Buyer leverages established procurement techniques—such as market analysis, cost trend evaluation, and supply-demand assessment— while maintaining service timelines and quality standards in support of centralized procurement operations.

Requirements

  • Previous Related Experience Required Contingent upon education requirement, 1–5 years of relevant experience in purchasing, procurement, or buyer-related functions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; knowledge of AS400 is a plus.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Technical writing ability and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of five (5) years of direct job related experience required or Associate’s degree with three (3) years of direct job related experience preferred or Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year of direct job related experience preferred.
  • Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire.
  • Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan.
  • Must participate in the following subject training and pass required certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • knowledge of AS400 is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate to secure the best possible prices and terms, supporting total cost savings and the company’s interests.
  • Develop and implement cost-reduction strategies, identifying opportunities for process improvement and supplier value creation.
  • Manage purchasing for Plant Expansion and MRO (Maintenance/Repair/Operations) work, ensuring the right quality, quantity, timing, and price.
  • Track procurement progress, resolve delays or discrepancies, and maintain up-to-date procurement records and reports.
  • Assess commercial proposals, pricing, past performance, and financial indicators to recommend the most advantageous suppliers.
  • Conduct risk assessments of suppliers and provide recommendations to mitigate supply chain or financial risks.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of Purchase Orders and contract documentation for proper issuance and compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies or changes in contract terms before approval.
  • Evaluate bid responsiveness, vendor responsibility, and performance while tracking market trends and business practices.
  • Maintain a vendor database and performance scorecards to support strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders—including Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Legal, and Accounting—to meet objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings and ensure alignment on procurement plans, priorities, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Promote a culture of integrity and compliance, ensuring all team members understand and follow company policies and ethical guidelines.
  • Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant in like new condition.
