DESCRIPTION: Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Buyer II and make a meaningful impact on global science and healthcare. You'll contribute to ensuring the seamless supply of materials that enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Working in a procurement environment, you'll manage supplier relationships, drive cost optimization, and ensure timely delivery of critical materials while maintaining optimal inventory levels. You'll work with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Finance to support operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives. LOCATION: This is a fully onsite position based in Madison, WI. Unfortunately, relocation assistance is NOT provided. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screen.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree + 2 years experience or in lieu of a degree, 6+ years of relevant procurement/buying experience in a manufacturing environment experience will be considered
  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred, Oracle, JD Edwards) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and especially Excel)
  • Experience with MRP, inventory management and supplier relationship management
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills with ability to achieve cost savings
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities to interact effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of FDA/ISO regulations and quality systems preferred
  • Ability to analyze data and develop actionable insights
  • Ability to critically think, problem solve and work efficiently under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Ability to travel occasionally to supplier sites as needed
  • Multi-lingual skills valued but not required
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process, with the ability to avoid potential manufacturing bottlenecks.
  • Capable of handling day-to-day work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high level of diplomacy.
  • Work well within teams and be flexible to change.
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks on time and with high quality.
  • Ability to work effectively and influence others in a matrixed environment.
  • High intensity and comfort level with change while driving toward results.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Fields of Study: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, Engineering or related field
  • APICS, CPIM, CSCP or CIPS certification preferred
  • Knowledge of FDA/ISO regulations and quality systems preferred
  • Multi-lingual skills valued but not required
