About The Position

The Buyer II is a key member of EC’s centralized Purchasing team, responsible for managing supply chain and logistics activities across strategic company projects. This role ensures proactive procurement of materials, equipment, and services, including collaboration with our prefab shops for prefabricated and kitted items through early planning, strategic sourcing aligned with master agreements, and close coordination with Prefab, project, and field teams. By partnering early in preconstruction and tying buys to work package releases, the Buyer II reduces reactive purchasing, improves cost efficiency, vendor performance, invoice accuracy, and educates field teams on best practices. This position serves as a stepping stone for increased responsibility, including informal mentoring of junior team members.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of ERP Systems
  • Advanced Excel or Data analysis experience
  • Proficient in Project and Cross Functional Coordination Skills

Responsibilities

  • Work with vendors to establish competitive pricing and terms for materials, equipment, and services.
  • Provide input and support to the Purchasing Director in negotiating terms, conditions, volume incentives, and master agreements.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure optimal service, quality, and value.
  • Review material, equipment, and service requests from field and Prefab teams; determine best source (e.g., site-direct vs. prefabricated/kitted); place orders accordingly. Coordinate closely with Prefab on kitted or fabricated items to align with work package releases and ensure smooth logistics/delivery.
  • Consolidate vendor usage across projects to leverage strategic partners and master agreements.
  • Audit spend across projects to identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure vendor compliance.
  • Provide guidance to field teams, Material Handlers/Logistics personnel, and Buyer I team members on procurement protocols, best practices, supply chain processes, on-site material handling/distribution, and Prefab coordination.
  • Support development of strategies for multi-project negotiations, volume discounts, and coordinated buyouts.
  • Track and manage purchase orders, deliveries, and releases aligned with project schedules and work packages; coordinate with Material Handlers/Logistics for on-site receipt, verification, and distribution.
  • Update POs as needed to reflect accurate costs for Accounts Payable invoice matching.
  • For larger projects, support negotiation of job-specific pricing for extended-duration needs and key materials/services, collaborating with Purchasing Director.
  • Partner with project teams during preconstruction to forecast requirements, review specifications and bills of materials, and set up purchase orders in advance.
  • Collaborate with project teams, Prefab, Purchasing Director & Quality Control Specialist on major Purchase Orders, including: a. Reviewing bills of materials, budgets, bids, specifications, and submittals. b. Providing input on project-specific Terms & Conditions. c. Tracking submittals, release coordination tied to work packages, delivery logistics, and on-site coordination/issues with Material Handlers/Logistics.
  • Interface with vendors, Accounts Payable, Prefab, and on-site teams to resolve invoice, delivery, material distribution, or Prefab-related issues.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by Purchasing Director.
