About The Position

Retailers have relied on our quality products and service for more than 65 years. The Buyer I role is responsible for independently executing purchasing activities to support company operations. This role manages the full purchase order lifecycle, coordinates with suppliers to ensure timely delivery, and supports sourcing initiatives by gathering data and providing input on supplier performance, pricing, and availability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or another related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or another related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment, if degreed.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or another related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment, if non-degreed.
  • Intermediate PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Work, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of purchasing and inventory control processes.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while exercising sound judgment.
  • Basic understanding of supply chain principles and procurement workflows.
  • Occasional travel including overnight stays.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to navigate in a manufacturing environment, including navigating stairs.
  • May require exposure to production areas, equipment, and noise.
  • Successful completion of pre-hire drug screen and post offer background screen is required to obtain employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in procurement (e.g. CPP, CSCP, CPSM, APP).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to supplier quoting and sourcing processes.
  • Familiarity with procurement best practices and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of inventory management concepts.
  • Experience working with enterprise procurement systems.
  • Ability to source material internationally.
  • Ability to use e-sourcing (e-auctions) for new product or product replacement bids.
  • Ability to manage material flow/assembly with 3rd party processors.
  • Prior Oracle experience.
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge of Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Responsibilities

  • Execute purchasing of materials, equipment, and services in accordance with company policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
  • Review purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy, obtain necessary approvals, and issue purchase orders to approved suppliers.
  • Manage the full purchase order lifecycle, including order placement, confirmation, status monitoring, and closure.
  • Communicate with suppliers to confirm pricing, delivery schedules, order status, and routine contractual terms.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up to ensure on-time delivery and accurate system data.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records within enterprise systems, including supplier information and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure purchased materials align with production schedules and operational needs.
  • Assist in resolving routine supplier issues, including delivery delays, quantity discrepancies, and invoice variances.
  • Support sourcing activities by collecting supplier quotes, product specifications, and market information.
  • Participate in routine pricing discussions with suppliers within established guidelines.
  • Provide input to buyers and leadership regarding supplier performance trends and potential supply risks.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve purchasing processes, data accuracy, and material availability.
  • Support inventory management efforts by monitoring material availability and communicating potential shortages or excess conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
  • Ability to work and interact well with others.
  • Assist in maintaining blanket purchase orders and contract release documentation.
  • Support supplier onboarding and documentation activities.
  • Provide purchasing data for forecasting, reporting, and budgeting purposes.
  • Assist with special procurement projects as assigned.
