About The Position

Butcher Block Supervisor Position Summary The Butcher Block Supervisor oversees daily operations of the butcher block/seafood service area while delivering excellent customer service and ensuring high standards of product quality, food safety, and inventory control. This role supports the Meat Manager by supervising associates, maintaining freshness and presentation, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities Customer Service Maintain an enthusiastic, service‑driven environment with a focus on fast and friendly customer service Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and food preparation suggestions Promote products through suggestive selling and engaging customer interaction Department Operations Plan and oversee daily butcher block operations, including seafood processing, cutting, wrapping, weighing, and display Wash and process fresh fish and prepare value‑added seafood items as required Build and maintain effective meat, poultry, and seafood displays Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all work areas, equipment, coolers, and freezers Support opening and closing department procedures Food Safety & Compliance Ensure proper temperature control during preparation, display, and storage Enforce code dating, labeling, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) requirements Follow and enforce food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations Inventory & Shrink Control Control inventory levels to maintain freshness, quality, and in‑stock conditions Assist with physical inventories performed every four weeks Reduce shrink through proper rotation, handling, and waste control Maintain orderly and well-organized butcher block cases and backroom areas Merchandising & Sales Execute promotional and seasonal displays Monitor product presentation and signing to maximize sales and visual appeal Support department profitability through proper production and inventory practices Associate Supervision & Training Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to butcher block associates Monitor productivity and provide performance feedback Train associates on company policies, food safety standards, and customer service expectations Identify and support associates with advancement potential Administrative & Receiving Duties Complete and maintain daily production logs, temperature logs, sales, labor, and other required paperwork Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product Operate department equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, grinders, cutters, scales, wrappers, and steamers

Requirements

  • Previous experience in meat, seafood, or butcher block operations
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and product handling standards
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory or lead experience
  • Familiarity with inventory systems, shrink control, and merchandising execution
