About The Position

The Business Technology Analyst (BTA) provides critical support in delivering technology and business services to customers across the organization. This role bridges business needs with technology solutions by gathering requirements, coordinating projects, ensuring effective communication, and supporting technology-enabled processes. BTAs help ensure that services, systems, and solutions align with organizational goals and deliver measurable value. In addition to the core BTA duties, this role supports management of software and hardware assets, including procurement, compliance, and customer support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience) and at least two years of experience
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to translate business needs into technology solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business and functional requirements
  • Manage and coordinate projects, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and resources are met
  • Support ticket triage, issue resolution, and customer engagement to improve service delivery
  • Conduct business case development, ROI analysis, and prepare supporting documentation for technology investments
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, policies, and technical reference materials
  • Evaluate processes for improvements, including customer experience and efficacy
  • Facilitate service catalog management and cost transparency, including total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to evaluate products and services, providing recommendations based on cost, functionality, and organizational fit
  • Provide data analysis and reporting on key metrics to support decision-making
  • Coordinate and support outreach, training sessions, demonstrations, and events that further organizational objectives
  • Ensure alignment between business needs, IT service delivery, and organizational strategy
  • Perform other BTA duties as assigned
  • Facilitate the purchase and renewal of both hardware and software assets in compliance with system and campus policies (e.g., BPM 12004, procurement rules, legal/security review)
  • Obtain and manage software licenses, keys, distribution media, and hardware; ensure proper provisioning to directories and inventory systems
  • Maintain lifecycle data such as renewal dates, vendor details, serial numbers, equipment specifications, funding sources, charging models, and ownership
  • Maintain hardware, software, and technology service asset inventories, ensuring accuracy of records for reporting and audit purposes
  • Monitor and report on software license usage, hardware deployments, and total cost of ownership
  • Ensure compliance with licensing terms, contracts, and security/legal requirements
  • Provide timely updates to customers and coordinate with other teams, ensuring smooth workflow and providing excellent customer service
  • Communicate professionally with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and system partners across email, phone, and messaging platforms
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, account representatives, UM System offices, and campus stakeholders (Legal, Risk Management, Procurement, etc.)
