About The Position

Under general supervision, prepares Business Tax Code Enforcement Cases that are scheduled to appear before the Special Master. Performs lien research and prepares lien documents in conjunction with the Law Department. Provides forms and general information concerning Building, Zoning and Occupational Licenses. The following illustrates examples of some of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Business Tax Code Support. There may be other essential functions, not listed below, in order to accomplish the tasks as presented by the Supervisor. Requirements

  • Must possess a thorough understanding of the Business Tax Code Enforcement Program and Codification of violations to City Ordinances; ability to update and revise City of Hialeah Code or Ordinances.
  • Must possess considerable knowledge of Building Permitting procedures, zoning procedures, Occupational Licenses procedures.
  • Knowledge of permit research procedures.
  • Ability to tactfully handle challenging client service issues to direct clients to appropriate Departments in the City for conflict resolution.
  • Ability to prepare documents and reports when needed.
  • Must have ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, stand, hear, hands to finger dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, read and write English.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment; such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machines.
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D from an accredited school/institution.
  • Must possess a minimum of (2) two years of experience in the Business Tax Code Compliance Division of Community Development.
  • Must have received on-the-job training in all Divisions of Community Development.
  • Must be familiar with various software programs as related to Business Tax case preparation and presentations.
  • Must command good language skills in English and Spanish.
  • A combination of experience, education and training would be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Performs legal background research for cases brought before the Special Master.
  • Performs lien document research and preparation in conjunction with the Law Department.
  • Manages the training program for new clerks and receptionists.
  • Assists the lnspector(s) and Supervisor with training for new inspectors and manages the attendance and "request for time off" programs.
  • Answers telephone calls, greets clients, and provides forms and guidance as to issues concerning Compliance, as related to City Ordinances, Building Violations, Zoning Violations and Occupational License.
  • Provides copies of public record information when requested.
  • Schedules appointments for Inspectors, the Supervisor and the Director of Community Development concerning Business Tax Code Compliance cases.
  • Advises clients on the status of their licenses.
  • Refers complaints to assigned inspectors.
  • Assists the lnspector(s) and Supervisor by performing other related work as required.
