About The Position

The Business Services Specialist is responsible for employer engagement, job development, and participant placement, with expanded responsibility for workforce readiness instruction in support of employment outcomes.
This role incorporates structured group-based job readiness and employability instruction designed to strengthen participant preparedness, improve placement success, and enhance retention outcomes. Instructional duties are directly aligned with employer needs and placement strategies and do not constitute a separate instructional position.

Requirements

• Ability to pass a drug and background check
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university OR equivalent experience in: Business-to-business engagement; Staffing, recruiting, or job placement; Workforce development or employment services.
• Demonstrated experience providing group instruction, training, or workshops related to employment or workforce readiness.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional and collaborative approach.
• Experience working with diverse populations and familiarity with local labor markets and community resources.
• Proven customer service skills and the ability to maintain employer relationships.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and workforce-related software systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with local employers to understand hiring needs and workforce trends.
• Conduct targeted job searches that align participant skills and experience with employer requirements.
• Develop and maintain an up-to-date inventory of job opportunities across multiple industries.
• Promote workforce services to employers and serve as a liaison between businesses and program participants.
• Assist employers with recruitment activities, including candidate referrals, interview coordination, and hiring support.
• Conduct post-placement follow-up with employers to assess satisfaction, address issues, and identify opportunities for service improvement.
• Coordinate employer participation in job fairs, hiring events, and on-site recruitment activities.
• Arrange employer presentations to participants concerning workplace expectations, hiring practices, and career pathways.
• Communicate job leads and labor market intelligence to project staff to support coordinated service delivery.
• Deliver group-based workforce readiness instruction focused on: Job search techniques Computer and digital literacy necessary for employment Workplace professionalism and job retention strategies Financial literacy and basic life skills related to employment stability
• Provide foundational academic reinforcement (reading, writing, math, and communication skills) as needed to support employability and GED preparation, not as a primary adult education function.
• Conduct job readiness workshops that reinforce job search expectations and align participant skills with current employer needs.
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments specifically tailored to workforce participation and placement readiness.
• Use interactive group activities to promote engagement, confidence, and motivation in job-seeking participants.
• Provide individual support, coaching, and limited tutoring related to: Career exploration Employment goal setting Workplace behavior and problem-solving
• Collaborate with case managers and program staff to support coordinated job placement and maximize participant retention.
• Administer and interpret vocational aptitude and employability assessments in accordance with established procedures.
• Monitor participant progress and readiness for placement, documenting outcomes as required.
• Conduct formal and informal needs assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of job development and workforce readiness activities.
• Recommend enhancements to instructional content and employer engagement strategies based on labor market trends.
• Engage with community partners and business leaders to increase awareness of workforce services and maintain responsiveness to local workforce needs.
