Business Reporter, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
About The Position
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is looking for a hard-charging business reporter to cover hospitals, healthcare and emerging industries in our region. We want a reporter who is adept at quickly filing a breaking news story but is also able to spot the big picture and trends. The beat will focus on three hospital systems, collectively the largest employers in the region. But you'll also tap into industries and businesses that local leaders are working to develop, including the burgeoning biotech sector. Regional leaders are banking on such emerging industries to "move St. Louis forward." We want you to explore that possibility: What are the challenges? Who are the key players? What's happening now? This is a chance to put your personal stamp on a busy, high-profile beat in a diverse region of 2.8 million people. You’ll have the freedom to follow your news instincts and craft dynamic stories, from breaking news to features to investigations. You’ll need to understand the basics of a business beat, but we’re not looking for earnings report stories. We want you to dig into the local scene and find topical and smart stories. We want someone who can work across all of our digital platforms, navigate social media and understands the need to experiment with new story forms. Experience in data journalism is a plus.
