About The Position

A Business Relationship Specialist is responsible for originating, managing and growing a portfolio of small to medium-sized business members. Responsible for providing expert financial guidance and delivering customized banking solutions including small business lending and deposits. This role focuses on developing strong, trust-based relationships, understanding business members’ financial needs, and ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction. Success in this role requires professionalism, business acumen, and collaboration. The Business Relationship Specialist provides service to business members through in-branch and off-site consultations. Additional responsibilities include providing support to branch staff during account openings, serving as knowledgeable resources for member requests, and offering recommendations for products and services tailored to the evolving needs of our small business members. This role also ensures strict adherence to all credit union policies and procedures, as well as full compliance with applicable state and federal banking regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of work-related experience.
  • Work-related experience should consist of an in-depth background in financial services, product sales management and small business(preferred).
  • Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, or financial industry related curriculum, should be applicable to the financial industry.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to effectively engage with small business owners, community stakeholders, and internal leadership to support the growth and success of local business members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with business members, positioning yourself as a trusted advisor.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within the credit union’s target markets.
  • Conduct regular on-site and off-site meetings with clients to assess their financial needs and provide tailored solutions designed to help them achieve their goals.
  • Deliver personalized banking products and services that align with each business member’s unique requirements.
  • Represent the credit union at community and business events, including chamber meetings and small business forums, strengthen relationships, build brand presence, and develop referral networks.
  • Promote and serve as the subject matter expert for a full range of business banking products and services, including but not limited to deposit accounts, loans, lines of credit, treasury management, and merchant services.
  • Identify opportunities to meet members’ financial needs by cross-selling additional products and services that deepen relationships, enhance profitability, and strengthen member loyalty and retention.
  • Prepare, present, and follow up on proposals for financial products and services, ensuring timely communication and exceptional service throughout the sales process.
  • Manage and expand a portfolio of business members, focusing on client satisfaction, retention, and long-term profitability.
  • Monitor and analyze member accounts to identify potential risks, growth opportunities, and areas for relationship expansion.
  • Ensure all account management activities are conducted in full compliance with credit union policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the collection and review of financial documentation for business loan applications, ensuring timely member follow-up and strict adherence to all regulatory and compliance requirements, including NCUA, BSA, AML, and CIP standards.
  • Conduct preliminary credit analysis to identify potential credit risks prior to underwriting submission.
  • Maintain accurate and complete member records within Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Loan Origination Systems (LOS) while tracking opportunities and managing the lending pipeline.
  • Monitor loan and line-of-credit renewals to support timely processing and compliance throughout the lending cycle.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all business banking products, services, and related systems.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners—including Branch Leadership, Commercial Lending, Consumer Lending, and Marketing—to align strategies, share best practices, and serve as a knowledgeable resource.
  • Participating in regular team meetings and strategy huddles to coordinate activities, enhance communication, and drive consistent business growth.
  • Provide actionable feedback on leadership on market trends, member needs, and opportunities for new or improved business products and services.
  • Support the testing, evaluation, and implementation of new tools and system enhancements related to business services, ensuring smooth adoption and optimal utilization.
