Business Operations Manager

MGT InsuranceMadison, WI
4d$105,000 - $130,000

About The Position

MGT is the first AI-driven, neo-insurer focused on evolving commercial P&C insurance for the brokers and small business owners. By combining the expertise of industry veterans with state-of-the-art technology, we are ushering in the next evolution of commercial insurance and working to move the industry forward through the use of modern technology, better processes, and a rock-star team. We seek visionary leaders who thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, and excel in autonomous roles. We’re hiring a Business Operations Manager to help us scale how the business runs. This is a startup-style, high-ownership role that blends cross-functional program management, business operations, and basic business intelligence and reporting. You’ll drive critical initiatives across Product, Operations, Billing, Service, and Technology, taking projects from 0 → 1 (concept to launch) and then 1 → n (iteration and growth). You’ll work especially closely with our Operations and Service teams to improve execution, customer experience, and internal efficiency. This role is ideal for someone who’s equal parts builder + operator + organizer, and thrives in ambiguity.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in business operations, program management, operations strategy, consulting, or similar roles in fast-paced environments.
  • Proven track record driving cross-functional projects from concept → execution → launch.
  • Strong project management fundamentals (scoping, planning, prioritization, risk mgmt, stakeholder alignment).
  • Comfortable creating basic BI reporting: KPIs, trends, dashboards, operational metrics, and performance tracking.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to simplify complexity and drive decisions quickly
  • High ownership mindset: you don’t wait for perfect clarity, you create it.
  • Strong judgment and ability to balance speed vs. quality in a startup context.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Operations and/or Service teams directly
  • Familiarity with Insurance industry is a big plus
  • Familiarity with billing workflows, customer experience ops, or internal tooling launches
  • Experience with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) or modern data stacks
  • Builder energy: enjoys creating systems where none exist
  • Operator mindset: focused on outcomes, not just deliverables
  • Process-oriented: build lightweight processes that bring structure and speed
  • Cross-functional leadership: aligns teams without formal authority
  • Metrics-driven: knows what “good” looks like and measures impact

Responsibilities

  • Own cross-functional programs end-to-end: define goals, scope, milestones, owners, and timelines—then drive delivery through launch and beyond
  • Act as the “glue” between Ops, Service, Product, Billing, and Tech, ensuring the work is aligned, unblocked, and moving
  • Turn messy problems into structured plans: write project briefs, simplify decisions, coordinate stakeholders, and push work forward
  • Partner closely with Operations and Service teams to identify bottlenecks, improve workflows, and build scalable processes
  • Support launches by coordinating readiness across teams (process changes, training, internal comms, reporting, issue tracking)
  • Build simple BI reporting and dashboards to track KPIs, measure program impact, and surface trends (often using spreadsheets + basic analytics tools)
  • Drive continuous improvement: document processes, refine handoffs, reduce repeat issues, and implement tools/systems that scale
  • Communicate clearly and consistently: communication is tight, proactive, and structured
