About The Position

The Business Operations Associate will play a central role in enabling the day-to-day operations of BigHat’s headquarters and driving to execution across corporate functions. This role is ideal for a highly adaptable, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys flexing across a wide range of operational workstreams—including facilities, finance support, legal and compliance coordination, IT, procurement, and employee experience. This individual will serve as a connective tissue across teams, helping translate business needs into action, proactively identifying gaps, and ensuring the company’s operational foundations can deliver.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in business operations, office or lab management, or a similar generalist role in a fast-paced environment (startup or biotech experience a plus).
  • Strong organizational and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across different functional areas.
  • Proactive and clear communicator with a collaborative and service-oriented mindset.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and comfort working with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Energized by wearing many hats and passion for creating an engaging and inclusive workplace experience.
  • Able to dive deep in a particular subject while balancing a wide set of responsibilities
  • Reliable, resourceful, and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Interest in growing with the role and expanding operational scope over time.

Responsibilities

  • Drive operation of BigHat’s San Mateo office, partnering with internal teams and external vendors to maintain a safe, functional, and engaging workplace.
  • Coordinate site logistics, access, and general office needs in collaboration with lab operations and building management.
  • Partner with leaders across Operations, Finance, Legal, HR, IT, and other functions to support operational execution, special projects, and process improvements.
  • Help document, improve, and scale internal workflows, tools, and information management practices.
  • Act as a reliable “utility player,” stepping into new workstreams as priorities evolve.
  • Support purchasing, vendor coordination, and accounts payable processes in partnership with Finance and Accounting.
  • Help ensure accurate tracking, documentation, and compliance across operational spend.
  • Support employee onboarding logistics, onsite experience, and internal events.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive workplace culture through thoughtful operational execution.
  • Coordinate with internal IT resources and external vendors to support hardware, systems access, and office technology needs.
  • Assist with maintaining operational documentation and system records, as appropriate.
