About The Position

The High School CTE Business/Marketing Teacher provides rigorous, standard-aligned instruction in business/marketing education pathways. The teacher builds partnerships with local businesses, facilitates work-based learning and career exploration, and prepares students for postsecondary and career success, while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Teacher CTE teaching certificate or be highly experienced in the knowledge and occupation skills of the CTE program to be certified. A total of 6,000 hours of experience is needed. 2,000 hours must be occupational industry experience (nonteaching). You may use up to 4,000 hours of teaching experience in the related Career and Technical Education specialty program area(s). If any of the 2,000 hours is more than six years old, 300 hours of industry experience is needed in the past two years.
  • Strong knowledge of business and marketing subject matter, effective instructional techniques, and classroom management strategies.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication, effective communication with parents, students, and staff.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles and materials to meet diverse student needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to integrate technology into teaching.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.

  • Successful teaching experience at appropriate grade level preferred
  • Possess a personal connection to Native peoples and also have knowledge of local customs and culture. Will collaborate/partner with local tribes in development and updates of the program (e.g. tribal education, treaty rights, language, natural resources departments, etc.)
  • Experience with trauma informed practices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and organizing real-world projects or business simulations.
  • Mentoring students on operating the school store, managing inventory, analyzing financial reports, developing marketing plans, and fostering practical, hands-on business skills.
  • Creating and grading exams, quizzes, and assignments to track progress.
  • Advising students on academic goals, business careers, and professional development.
  • Leading business-related clubs or preparing students for competitions (e.g., DECA, FBLA)
  • Developing and delivering engaging lessons on business and marketing topics, encompassing areas like entrepreneurship, finance, accounting, marketing, and real estate.
  • Tailoring curriculum and instruction to meet the diverse needs of students at varying academic levels and backgrounds, potentially including students with special needs or those at risk of dropping out.
  • Employing a variety of teaching methods, such as lectures, projects, hands-on activities, and utilizing technology like computers and online resources.
  • Providing individualized and group instruction and assistance to students.
  • Setting clear learning objectives and communicating them effectively to students.
  • Integrating academic content with practical career preparation.
  • Providing students with clear expectations and consistent feedback.
  • Building partnerships with local businesses to facilitate work-based learning, internships, and career exploration opportunities for students.
  • Participating in program advisory committees to ensure curriculum relevance and align with industry needs.
