The HealthIT Data Modeling Services team is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst. This role involves working as a business/data analyst with strong user-facing communication skills, leveraging prior healthcare experience to develop and deliver semantic model solutions under occasional guidance. The analyst will collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business needs into actionable insights, and deliver clear, concise data assets and data marts. Key responsibilities include analyzing data sources, designing, and developing the semantic layer to connect business language with technical data, ensuring data consistency, and documenting metadata, lineage, and business definitions. The role also requires collaboration with technical teams, data governance, and business stakeholders to ensure the semantic model meets business needs for self-service analytics. The analyst will implement small projects or components of large projects and solve medium to complex problems. HealthIT provides health information technology tools to support VUMC's mission of delivering personalized care, improving community health, providing transformative learning, and supporting compelling discoveries. These tools are either developed in-house or selected from cutting-edge solutions. The department's 500 colleagues provide ongoing support, ensuring tools meet evolving needs. Requirements

  • Strong SQL skills
  • Strong analysis experience
  • Understanding of data and data modeling
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable information
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical users
  • Ability to gather requirements, present findings, and provide support to end users
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA)
  • Ability to apply healthcare domain knowledge to ensure data solutions meet regulatory requirements
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
  • Ability to optimize SQL queries for performance and accuracy
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts such as ODS, enterprise data warehouse, data marts, and semantic modeling
  • Ability to apply best practices in data organization and integration
  • Understanding of design concepts, data organization, capabilities and limitations in data warehousing
  • Experience with corporate, as well as local, data warehouse models
  • Experience using at least one state-of-the-art data warehouse package in practical application of moderate difficulty
  • Strong understanding of dimensional and semantic modeling concepts like Star and snowflake models
  • Ability to build and optimize the semantic layer for intuitive, self-service data access and analysis by end-users
  • Successful application of Data Marts skill in situations of medium complexity
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure Databricks for data analysis and processing
  • Basic Python coding skills for data analysis, data manipulation, and automation tasks
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Less than 1 year of relevant work experience
