The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for generating new business opportunities through proactive outbound sales efforts. This role is focused on identifying target accounts, initiating conversations with prospective customers, and building early-stage pipeline for SDC’s custom automation solutions. This is not an account management or inbound sales role. Success in this position requires disciplined prospecting, consistent activity, and the ability to engage manufacturing, operations, and engineering leaders at the Director and VP level. Requirements

  • 3–7+ years of B2B sales or business development experience
  • Demonstrated success in outbound prospecting and opportunity creation
  • Ability to engage senior-level manufacturing and operations leaders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and results-focused
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical manufacturing concepts
  • Consistent achievement of outbound activity and prospecting targets
  • Predictable generation of qualified sales pipeline
  • Clear contribution to new opportunity and revenue goals
  • Established presence within 2–3 priority industry verticals

  • Automation, robotics, or capital equipment sales
  • Experience selling into automotive, medical device, electronics, or similar manufacturing environments

Responsibilities

  • Identify and research target accounts within SDC’s core and emerging markets
  • Execute structured outbound prospecting activities, including phone, email, LinkedIn, referrals, and site visits
  • Initiate conversations with manufacturing, operations, and engineering decision-makers
  • Secure discovery and introductory meetings for sales and engineering teams
  • Develop multi-level relationships within prospective customer organizations
  • Qualify opportunities based on technical fit, scope, budget, and timing
  • Maintain accurate and timely CRM documentation
  • Collaborate with engineering and internal stakeholders during early opportunity shaping
  • Own momentum and follow-up through early sales stages
  • Monitor manufacturing and automation trends relevant to SDC’s offerings
  • Gather competitive and market intelligence from customer interactions
  • Provide feedback to leadership on positioning, messaging, and opportunity focus
