About The Position

We are seeking a seasoned Business Development Manager to build and expand our client base in the utility/power infrastructure sector (investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, public power districts & cooperatives). This role is focused on identifying and winning new consulting services opportunities (engineering, design, asset management, program/contract support) with these utility clients and allied organizations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of business development or sales experience in the utility, power infrastructure or engineering‐consulting market (for IOUs, Co-Ops, municipal utilities).
  • Demonstrated success in winning large‐scale utility/infrastructure consulting or engineering engagements (preferably with IOUs, public utilities or municipalities).
  • Strong network / contacts in the utility sector (engineering/asset management, T&D, municipalities).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship‐building skills.
  • Ability to understand technical/engineering service offerings and translate them into client value.
  • Willingness to travel (50% of time) to client and industry events within the US/domestic market.

  • Bachelor’s degree (engineering, business, or similar). MBA or advanced degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the growth strategy for our utility/infrastructure client segment: set target markets, client segments (IOU, municipal utilities, cooperatives, public power), service lines (asset management, T&D, renewables integration, grid modernization).
  • Lead capture of major utility consulting engagements: program contracts, long‐term services agreements, multi‐year frameworks, teaming alliances.
  • Identify, target and win new clients among IOUs, municipal utilities, public power authorities, cooperatives, and infrastructure owners/owners‐
  • Develop and maintain relationships with utility executives, department heads (engineering, T&D, asset management, planning), program managers and consulting‐engineering procurement leads.
  • Monitor industry trends (grid modernization, T&D upgrades, substations, distributed energy resources (DERs), electrification, resilience, regulatory drivers) to develop compelling value propositions.
  • Lead proposal development: Align with technical team to craft scope of services, teaming arrangements, capture strategy, pricing input, win‐themes and deliverables.
  • Work with technical/engineering teams to understand capabilities, develop differentiators (e.g., power/delivery + oil & gas/transmission synergy).
  • Build and manage a pipeline of opportunities: maintain CRM records (VantagePoint CRM), forecast revenue, track client interactions and next actions.
  • Hand-off won projects to delivery teams and support a smooth transition (ensuring scope, contract terms, client expectations align).
  • Meet quantitative growth targets (new client logos, revenue growth, margin) and qualitative goals (client satisfaction, brand in utility sector).
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences/trade shows relevant to utilities (T&D, grid modernization, municipal utilities associations).
