About The Position

IMCD US currently has an opening for a Business Development Manager to drive our Synthesis business across the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and aroma chemical sectors. Synthesis is a fast-growing business line within IMCD Business Group Pharmaceuticals. Our purpose is simple; to be the #1 global distributor of speciality ingredients (solvents, process chemicals and intermediates) and the first port of call for our customers, both innovators and CDMOs, for their R&D and manufacturing needs. Following strong success in Europe, IMCD is looking to expand its Synthesis business to the United States. The role is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, self-starting, commercial / technical ‘hunter’, excited at the prospect of collaborating with international stakeholders to develop a new business line from the bottom up. The role will be a remote position, preferably in the Mid West/North East supporting the whole United States territory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, or related field
  • Min. 5 - 10 years experience in selling solvents, process chemicals, intermediates and services to the above mentioned Synthesis market sectors in the US
  • Well-presented and articulate, disciplined.
  • Strong skills in computer programs including Microsoft Office.

  • Background in chemical distribution ideal but not essential

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a growth strategy for the US market, in line with the global Synthesis vision, with short-, medium- and long-term goals
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Product Managers, Technical Managers, Supply Chain etc.) to drive business development activities
  • Develop an attractive portfolio of speciality products / principals (suppliers) and services to compliment the existing offering
  • Identify and visit target customers to introduce IMCD US, to foster relationships with R&D and purchasing contacts and generate new opportunities
  • Champion IMCD’s ‘Greener Solutions’ initiative, working with the technical team to promote green chemistry and sustainable alternatives to commonly used solvents etc.
  • Implement and manage the sales process including lead generation, pipeline creation, CRM (Sales Force) management
  • Track monthly and YTD sales performance paying close attention to key metrics
  • Prepare budgets, reports and updates (internal and external) as required
  • Track industry trends, regulatory changes and competitor activity to scout for opportunities
  • Attend select industry events (e.g. CPhI North America) to build customer and principal networks and generate new prospects
