About The Position

The Business Development Director ("BDD") will have the responsibility of working in conjunction with the General Manager to generate revenue for the facility. The Business Development Director is responsible for sales and contractual agreements for private events, memberships, marketing, leagues and community engagement. The efforts of the BDD include managing inbound and outbound private event business, selling and maintaining the membership program and owning in-venue marketing efforts. The BDD will prepare event contracts, supply complete event preliminary information to the management team, and provide secondary support to the operations team for events and organizations partnering with the venue. In addition, the BDD will be required to fill the role of Leader on Duty at the discretion of the General Manager or his/her designate. The Leader on Duty oversees the overall operation during an assigned shift and/or event ensuring every aspect of the venue is running at optimal levels.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in hospitality, event planning, or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years appropriate sales experience required
  • Experience in contract negotiations, event creation, and planning preferred
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and negotiating skills
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Prior responsibility in P&L management and budget oversight
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds waist high
  • Will be required to sit for extended periods of time operating a computer
  • Will be required to conduct venue tours to prospective clients
  • Workplace environment has intermittent noise, generally moderate in nature, but can be loud at times especially during competitions and events

Responsibilities

  • Event development and primary contact for all events prior to fulfillment
  • Forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for programs; projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products; establishing pricing strategies; recommending selling prices; monitoring costs, competition, supply, and demand
  • Responsible for negotiating contractual agreements, event tracking processes, and database
  • Responsible for communication of event details, projections, timelines, marketing objectives
  • Accomplishes objectives by planning, developing, implementing, evaluating programs and developing field sales action plans
  • Maintain membership database, helping ensure best-in-class member experiences and plan member-only events
  • Sustains rapport with key accounts by maintaining regular communication, making periodic visits; exploring specific needs; anticipating new opportunities
  • Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Serve as Manager-On-Duty ("MOD") when needed
  • Participation in planning/strategic meetings
  • Work with finance department to track and report profitability
  • Development of operational Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports
  • All other duties as assigned by management
