About The Position

The Business Continuity Analyst is an important member of the overall risk management function for Symetra. The Business Continuity Analyst is tasked with supporting and implementing the Business Continuity Management (BCM) program lifecycle. This includes working with business units to perform business impact analyses (BIA), assisting in business continuity plan (BCP) development, conducting and evaluating BCP exercises, promoting program initiatives through training and awareness, and maintaining emergency preparedness activities.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of cumulative, relevant professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of business continuity, emergency response, and/or risk management practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various business teams and levels of the organization.
  • Excellent project management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Creative and innovative mindset focused on continuous process improvement.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills addressing various audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate large and small group sessions ensuring success through preparation and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with business continuity management platforms or demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and adopt new software tools.
  • Proven competencies in conflict resolution, adaptability and coordination.
  • Must be able to work as a part of a team or independently.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours to support actual business interruptions.
  • High school diploma required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of the business continuity program, facilitating the annual business impact analysis, assisting in business continuity plan development, and designing, organizing and facilitating business continuity exercises.
  • Implement project management best practices to keep internal projects on track.
  • Act as a consultant to internal business stakeholders throughout the organization to lend business continuity subject matter expertise and support.
  • Champion business continuity management awareness throughout the enterprise.
  • Support emergency preparedness program maintenance.
  • Collaborate with key internal partners such as Technology Resilience, Vendor Management, and Workplace Services in cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support maintenance of BCM program tools, reports, and dashboards.
  • Support business interruption event monitoring and reporting.
  • Develop understanding of relevant laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Assist in developing relevant employee communications regarding emergencies, disasters and personal preparedness.
  • Support various regulatory filings and due diligence requests.
