About The Position

The Business and Commercial Services Credit Analyst is responsible for analyzing credit data and financial statements of individuals and firms to assess the risk involved in lending decisions and prepares reports to support sound decision-making. In addition, this role includes, but is not limited to, assisting in the review of existing loans, performing quality control on closed loans and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of business loan underwriting or credit analysis experience preferred (additional other job specific work experience can be substituted).
  • Thorough knowledge of credit and quality including extensive financial analysis abilities preferred.
  • Must have advanced analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups to manage member relationships.
  • Must be able to work independently to organize and plan schedule for optimal productivity and achieve production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Business/Commercial Lender(s) with collection of required financial data to process member business loan request. Data includes but not limited to Business Tax Returns, Financial Statements (Interim and Year End), Business Debt Schedule, Personal Financial Statements and Personal Tax Returns on all principals of the business and other related data on a case-by-case basis.
  • Analyze financial data, ensure the information meets the Credit Union requirements, is accurate, signed and complete.
  • Compile the financial data and complete cash flow analysis to include the borrowing entity, related companies and all guarantors.
  • Analyze and evaluate liquidity, profitability, trends, strengths and weaknesses of the borrowing entity, related companies and guarantors.
  • Conduct research of the industry, compare and contrast the industry trends to the borrower and any related entities.
  • Prepare preliminary Credit Approval Form (CAF), work with the Lender to finalize the CAF.
  • Make recommendation for approval or denial of loan requests, communicate recommendation to the lender and members of the Business Loan Committee.
  • Assist Credit Administrator with annual reviews of existing member business loans.
  • Assist Credit Administrator with portfolio management to include concentration risk, risk grades, interest rate risk, and relationship concentration to include an increase or decrease recommendation.
  • Perform quality control on closed loans, ensure compliance with approval, loan covenants and book loan into the core system.
  • Maintain current knowledge of competitors’ deposit and loan products, rates, fees and trends in their business activities.
  • Maintain and create positive working relationships with needed service providers that include but not limited to CUBG, SBA, CDC’s and others as needed.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to assess the condition of collateral being used for new and existing business loans.
  • Recommend changes to business products and services as dictated by the local market.
  • Possess a working knowledge of current regulatory requirements and stays current with changes in the regulatory environment.
  • Ensure compliance in all Credit Union related duties.
  • Seek knowledge and incorporate changes and developments in the Business Lending arena and daily activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of branch operations by completing Deposit Regulation and Product and Service Certification courses.
