About The Position

Technician II Transdev in San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining automotive engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a Diesel Technician, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our assets. Class A or B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire). Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)
  • Class A or B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire)
  • Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience
  • Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Intermediate problem-solving ability
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Comfortable using hand tools
  • Strong customer service skills and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Subject to a DOT physical exam and DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
  • The essential functions of this position require the ability to: Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (if based in the U.S.).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision on basic and advanced maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters and lubricate components.
  • Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision including the repair of brakes and brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches and other repairs.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers
  • Assist Tech I with preventative maintenance (PM’s), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage
  • Remove and replace engine, transmission and differential assemblies.
  • Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.
  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken
  • Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval where required
  • Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary
  • Repair and maintain all shop equipment
  • Cleans vehicles as requested or required
  • Other responsibility as requested or required
  • Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
  • Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties and maintained in a clean and safe manner
