Responsible for monitoring bus stop stations, to include exercising considerable discretion and independent judgment in reacting to the day to operations of the bus stop stations and other unforeseen events (i.e. ice on roads, and at the shelters, re-routing around accidents or obstacles). Provide on - street cleaning standards and to assist shelter cleaners with problems. The Bus Stop Technician plays a vital role in ensuring GRTC’s infrastructure remains safe, accessible, and aesthetically maintained. This position combines advanced construction skills, site maintenance expertise, and technical problem-solving, directly impacting public safety, operational efficiency, and the overall customer experience. Core Construction & Installation Responsibilities: These duties are central to the role and require high levels of technical proficiency and physical capability: Installs and Replaces Bus Stop Infrastructure: Utilizes a broad range of construction trade skills—including masonry, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and sheet metal work—to install, repair, or replace bus stop poles, signs, benches, and shelters. Concrete Work for Accessibility and Safety: Frames, pours, and finishes concrete pads to meet ADA accessibility standards and ensure safe, durable platforms for riders. Technical Site Preparation: Interprets and apply blueprints, diagrams, and construction specifications to ensure accurate and compliant installation of fixtures. Tool and Equipment Utilization: Uses hand and power tools for construction tasks and repairs. Drives and operates GRTC trucks and trailers to transport and deploy heavy equipment and construction materials. Site Readiness & Troubleshooting: Conducts advance inspections of bus stop sites, identifying hazards, obstructions, and repair needs prior to initiating work. Coordinates with the Maintenance Department to resolve issues involving power equipment or vehicles. Vegetation and Debris Removal: Clears overgrown vegetation, litter, and obstructive debris to ensure visibility and accessibility at all times. Maintenance & Cleaning Duties: Supporting long-term functionality and visual quality of transit environments: Power Steam Cleaning: Performs high-pressure steam cleaning of bus stop pads, transit centers, and walkways using specialized equipment. Applies detergents and solvents as required for thorough sanitation. Vegetation and Debris Removal: Clears overgrown vegetation, litter, and obstructive debris to ensure visibility and accessibility at all times. Visual and Informational Upkeep: Updates posters and public information signage at designated bus stop locations.
