About The Position

The Bus Service Planning unit reviews and plans short-term and long-term changes to MTA's bus routes and stops. We review public and stakeholder feedback, collaborate with NYCDOT on bus priority, and develop large-scale Bus Network Redesign plans. For the 2026 budget cycle, Bus Service Planning interns will support full-time staff members with changes to the current bus network by supporting with fieldwork, data analysis, mapping, and presentations. Interns will also support the Bus Network Redesign projects by assisting with post implementation for Queens Redesign. They will also support the Brooklyn Redesign project with Proposed Final Plan public outreach preparations which include developing maps, graphics and presentations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
  • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. Students' transcript must be submitted.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Science, Geography, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance for improving bus service in New York City
  • Perform in-depth data collection and analysis to evaluate current and future bus service
  • Make or evaluate proposals to adjust bus stops for better service or to better accommodate adjoining land use
  • Develop maps and graphics to synthesize complex data and concepts for a non-technical audience
  • Review and respond to public and stakeholder feedback on Bus Network Redesign plans
  • Participate in public outreach efforts, including on-street engagement, presenting at public meetings, and implementing route changes and/or bus priority projects
  • Collaborate with other MTA departments, other public agencies or outside organizations, and elected officials and other stakeholders
  • Perform various fieldwork assignments as needed
