About The Position

To assist the Self Contained Special Education Teacher with the implementation of the Individual Education Plan for students with various types of disabilities in a self- contained classroom setting. To assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning class/computer lab environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program.

Requirements

Must obtain and maintain an AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card ( required ).
Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.

Nice To Haves

High School diploma or equivalent ( preferred ).
Experience working with school- aged children.
Experience working with children with various learning and physical disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

Participates in planning and modifying activities/work assignments for individual students.
Assist the teacher in implementing the activities /work assignments for individual students (small groups and individuals).
Follow a lesson plan, chart or guide evolved by teacher.
Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems, and progress of the student.
Assists the teacher in progress monitoring of students.
Assists teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and control.
Maintains adequate and legible records concerning his/her students work with teacher direction.
Assists the teacher with preparation of instructional materials.
Attends district in-service workshops for instructional aides when release time or pay is given.
Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program which includes maintaining monthly logs on eligible students; attending scheduled training.
Assists with personal care activities for special education self- contained students, including feeding, toileting and medical protocol.
Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Other job related duties as assigned.
