Job Summary: The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, field trips, and extracurricular activities while ensuring a secure and positive environment. The driver must adhere to all traffic laws, school policies, and safety regulations to maintain the well-being of students. Key Responsibilities: Safe Transportation: Operate a school bus or other district-assigned vehicle to transport students safely to and from school, field trips, and school-related activities. Compliance & Safety: Follow all traffic laws, state regulations, and school district policies regarding bus operation and student transportation. Pre-Trip & Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of the bus, including checking brakes, tires, lights, and fuel levels, and report any maintenance issues. Student Supervision & Behavior Management: Maintain order on the bus, enforce rules, and report any discipline issues to the school administration. Emergency Preparedness: Be knowledgeable of and follow emergency procedures, including evacuations and first aid response. Communication: Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students regarding schedules, delays, or concerns. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of routes, student attendance, vehicle inspections, and incidents as required by the school district. Qualifications & Requirements: Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Licensing: Must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) Endorsements (or be willing to obtain them). Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods and operate a vehicle safely. Ability to assist students in emergency situations if necessary. Good vision and hearing to ensure safe driving. Preferred Skills & Abilities: Strong sense of responsibility and attention to safety. Good communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with students, parents, and school staff. Ability to manage student behavior in a calm and professional manner. Dependability and punctuality to ensure timely student transportation. Work Schedule & Conditions: Typically follows the school district calendar (Monday-Friday, mornings and afternoons). May be required for field trips, after-school events, and emergency routes. Work involves exposure to various weather conditions and road hazards.
