About The Position

The job of Bus Driver is done for the purpose(s) of transporting students and/or special education students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; enforcing rules, regulations and laws to maintain safety during transport; ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle; and ensuring the safety of special education students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Commercial Drivers License
• CPR/first-aid certificate
• Social Security Card
• Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
• Valid picture ID
• Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP)

Responsibilities

• Drives schools’ buses and/or vans for the purpose of transporting students and/or special education students over scheduled routes and to/from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner
• Advises students, special education students and other passengers of behavior requirements for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and maintain safety
• Assesses potential emergency situations for the purpose of taking appropriate action to protect the well-being of passengers
• Assists special education bus attendants for the purpose of providing for special needs of students during transport, safe ingress (entering) and egress (exiting) from buses, including emergency situations and normal transport
• Attends training for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting requirements of school bus certificate
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and meeting state requirements
• Prepares reports (e.g. transportation log, inspection log, inspection sheets, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established state and/or District requirements
• Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of maintaining appearance, sanitation and safety of vehicle
• Fuels assigned vehicles for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition
• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
• Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee
