Responsible for accepting transportation assignments and performing driving duties in a safe and cautious manner. The primary responsibility is the safety of our passengers.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license with three years driving experience.
  • Must obtain a Commercial license within one month of obtaining a commercial permit, unless extension approved the Safety Manager.
  • Must be able to meet requirements of Article 19-A.
  • Must be able to drive Monday-Friday, both mornings and afternoons. This requirement may be waived by Director of Transportation for drivers hired under a Substitute Status.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of Vehicle Traffic Laws which would include: safe driving skills as determined by the 19A Certified Examiner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to pass NYS SED Bus Driver Physical Performance Test, which includes a 125 lb weigh drag and agility tests related to entering and exiting a bus and driving a vehicle.
  • Must be able to physically perform a full wheelchair run after receiving the appropriate training.
  • Subject to pre-hire, return to duty, accident, reasonable suspicion and random Drug Testing per FMCSA, SED, USDOT and NYSDOT regulations

Responsibilities

  • To be aware of and comply with all motor vehicle and traffic laws and agency policies.
  • Drive routes as assigned by the Dispatch office.
  • Follow all “Home alone” procedures and ensure that passengers are only released to authorized individuals.
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspectons on vehicle before leaving point of origin and upon return.
  • Record and turn-in, daily, all necessary paperwork.
  • Supply the Safety manager or other 19A Certified examiner with information necessary for Article 19A Compliance.
  • Notify the dispatch office of any incidents or accidents that occur, at any time.
  • Perform any other duties, as requested by the Dispatch office.
  • Assure that all seat belts, car seats and wheelchairs are properly secured, according to regulations and policies.
