About The Position

Bus monitors should be able to give full attention to what children, parents or other staff are saying. They should be able to teach children how to do things, like put their seat belts on or sit back and follow procedures. Speaking skills come into play when communicating with children, the bus driver, parents, or other staff. Bus monitors must be able to convey information effectively. Bus monitors should also be able to communicate information that others understand which will be easier with oral expression skills.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and appropriately gather and analyze information.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain confidentiality, be open to innovative ideas, and work successfully both on an independent basis and on a team. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a wide range of management styles within the Company and build community relationships.
Oral Communication: Ability to organize thoughts and speak persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrate group presentation skills and conduct effective meetings.
Written Communication: Good writing skills using good spelling, punctuation, grammar; detail-oriented in editing written documents; ability to present numerical and statistical data effectively; and ability to accurately interpret and communicate written information.
Planning and Organizing: Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to ensure the timely completion of projects and development of realistic action plans.
Quality: Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.
Adaptability: Able to quickly adapt and respond to a rapidly changing work environment and manage competing demands in a productive manner.
Dependability: Demonstrated ability to consistently be at work and on time as scheduled, follow instructions, respond to management direction, and solicit feedback to improve performance.

Responsibilities

Responsible for assisting children with getting on and off the bus safely.
Make sure children are in their assigned seats, if applicable, and they must make sure that children get off the bus at the correct stops.
Ensure children remain safely seated while the bus is in motion.
Operate a lift and secure wheelchairs in tie-down system.
Assist drivers in maintaining safety on the bus in route and while the bus is parked as bus stops.
Maintaining order on the bus.
Prepare for and assist with emergency evacuations. Handle emergency situations calmly and quickly.
Compete accurate records as required by policies and procedures.
Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
Following basic principles of early childhood development and establishing good relationships with the children, the bus driver, the parents, and other staff.
Make sure there are not any children left after the bus route is completed and ensure tidiness of the bus.
