About The Position

Steel Forgings Inc. (SFI) is a leading manufacturer of custom butt weld fittings that has been servicing the oil and gas industry for over 75 years. SFI is seeking a CNC Plasma and Oxyfuel Cutting Machine Operator to work in our cylinder department. Responsibilities Set up, program, and operate heavy-duty CNC plasma and oxyfuel cutting machines. Load and unload materials (e.g., steel plates) using a forklift, crane, or other lifting devices. Monitor the cutting process, adjusting machine settings (e.g., gas pressures, cutting speeds, kerf settings, amperage) as necessary to ensure optimal processing conditions and cut quality. Inspect and measure finished products using various measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, scales, protractors) to verify accuracy and document compliance with specifications. Perform routine operator-level maintenance and troubleshooting on the equipment, such as replacing worn consumables, cleaning the cutting head, and removing debris. Communicate issues or malfunctions to supervisors or the maintenance team. Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and regulations, ensuring a safe and clean working environment. Perform other duties in the plant as requested. Knowledge, Experience, and Requirements A minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC plasma cutting machines, preferably heavy-duty models with oxyfuel capabilities. Ability to perform setups and operate machines efficiently. Must be able to utilize micrometers, calipers, scales, and other precision measuring instruments. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier or difficult objects may require mechanical assistance (e.g., cranes, forklifts). Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hearing protection. Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking. Movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing, and other active movements. Working in temperature zones that may include hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust, noise, welding gases, and fumes are present.
