About The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished prosecutor for the Bureau Chief position in Rehabilitation Programs and Restorative Services Bureau. The Rehabilitation Programs and Restorative Services Bureau is a fulfillment of the District Attorney’s promise to ensure that the Queens District Attorney’s Office administers justice with compassion. The Bureau consists of the Crime Victim Advocates Program and the Diversion and Alternative Sentencing Unit.

Requirements

  • Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 12 years post-J.D. experience.
  • Applicants must also have: 3 years supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience collaborating with government agencies and non-profit organizations.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience with New York’s Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law
  • Familiarity with Judicial Diversion, Criminal Procedure Law section 730
  • Strong organizational, written and oral skills.
  • Ability to engage in direct contact with victims, defendants, and family members; ability to espouse the principles of procedural justice
  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced high-volume atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operations and functions of the Crime Victims Advocate Program, including expanding support for crime victims; the monitoring of individual cases; collaborating with ADAs, executive staff, the court, and local service providers; and supervising the clinical practice as staff provide counseling services, assist in obtaining reimbursement for crime-related expenses, and referring to a wide number of additional resources.
  • Manage the operations and functions of the Alternative Sentencing Unit, including those that pertain to the expansion of program partnerships; the monitoring of individual cases; collaboration with the court, defense bar, and community-based criminal justice stakeholders; and supervise the legal practice in the Supreme and Criminal Court treatment and problem-solving courts.
  • Compile and analyze data, maintain statistics, and draft case summaries; analyze trends and prepare management reports for federal, state, and local agencies pursuant to relevant laws.
  • Engage with research and practitioner-based partners to evaluate the impact of initiatives.
  • Assist in drafting Requests for Proposals; perform grant management, including compliance protocols and audit proceedings.
  • Manage staff of attorneys, support professionals, and clinical staff, including training Bureau staff on legal issues pertaining to their duties.
  • Represent the District Attorney at community meetings and events, including evening hours and weekends.
  • Perform all other duties and projects, as assigned.
